Route: Middle Dodd and Red Screes
Area: Eastern Lake District
Date of walk: 20th September 2013
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 7.7 miles
Ascent: 1,900 feet
I parked at Cow Bridge near Hartsop, which is a good place to gain access to some of the remote eastern fells, and walked along a lovely path by the shore of Brotherswater, then through fields until I reached the foot of Middle Dodd
Navigation to the top was simple, just follow the nose of the fell. It was tiring work though – unremittingly steep, but without difficulties. Once at the top I carried on along the ridge to the top of Red Screes. The views weren’t as good as they could have been due to low cloud and some drizzle
I then made my way down to the top of Scandale Pass, joining the path along Caiston Glen which followed the beck for most of the way down
After that it was a simple case of retracing my steps back to Cow Bridge. The weather had been indifferent but the walk was enjoyable throughout and I was glad I’d made the effort

Almost back to valley level, and I’ll soon be re-joining the path back to Cow Bridge
