The Allerdale Ramble is a long distance walk of about 50 miles starting at Seathwaite in Central Lake District and heading north, then striking west to follow the coast as far as Grune Point. Today we walked the first leg of the ramble – we hope to add the others over the course of the next few months (click here for the second leg)
As it is a linear walk we had to use two cars so as to be able to return to our start point. From Seathwaite we headed north, with spectacular fells towering over us on both sides. The weather was dull to start with, but on the approach towards Keswick some blue sky and sun appeared and it turned into a beautiful afteroon, with perfect light for photography
We took a minor detour to Nichol End Marine to enjoy the late afternoon sun over Derwent Water. The scenery had been of the highest order throughout the whole journey and it was an inspiring walk – we look forward to stage 2 of the Ramble
