Route: Hackness to Scarborough
Area: North Yorkshire
Date of walk: 15th January 2016
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 9.5 miles
Ascent: 600 feet
Weather: Sun and blue skies
We set off from Derwent View Hackness on a glorious morning with not a cloud in the sky (anyone not staying at the cottage could start from the nearby village hall car park). After walking along the valley road for a while we turned off along a footpath just beyond the Everley and climbed up to an elevated path above the Sea Cut
The path joined Keld Runnels Road – a very wet section after all the recent rain – and this quiet lane took us as far as the outskirts of Scalby. We walked through the attractive village following the route of the Tabular Hills Walk before crossing the Burniston Road to reach the cliff tops above the North Sea – a thrilling moment
We walked along the cliff top towards Scarborough with views of Scarborough Castle ahead of us all the way. When we reached the beach just beyond Scalby Mills we descended to the shore and walked along the sands
As this is a linear walk, thought needs to be given as to how to get back to the start. The last time we did this walk Betty’s taxis provided the solution but today we’d planned to meet our friends Phil and Denise. All went to plan and we met them walking up the beach towards us – thanks you two for getting us back to the start of a great walk
