Route: Grass Wood from Grassington
Area: Yorkshire Dales
Date of walk: 8th February 2014
Walkers: Andrew
Distance: 5.6 miles
Ascent: 700 feet
I parked at the National Park Centre in the lovely Dales village of Grassington and followed a path down to Linton Falls, only a couple of minutes away. The River Wharfe was running high and very fast, and the falls were on good form
The path took me along the bank of the river for about two miles, and I then turned away from it to enter Grass Wood, a nature reserve maintained by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
There’s a lot of birdlife to be seen on this walk, both along the river and in the wood – unfortunately none of it was on show today, probably because of the very high winds
After walking through the woodland, there was a short attractive section through typical Dales countryside with dry stone walls and old barns, before I arrived back in Grassington. The weather was dull and overcast – not ideal for photography – but at least the rain held off until I was back in the car
