Route: Farndale
Area: North York Moors
Date of walk: 2nd April 2014
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 6.8 miles
Ascent: 900 feet
Weather: Overcast and misty, brightened up a little later on
The wild daffodils which grow along the banks of the River Dove in Farndale are a spectacular sight in late March/early April
The initial section between the start of our walk at Church Houses and Low Mill is deservedly very popular, attracting perhaps too many folk at times. We’d timed our visit well as the daffodils were in full bloom and they seemed to be growing everywhere. It was a wonderful sight
Once through Low Mill, we walked along the side of Rudland Rigg then across the valley to the other side, returning along the lower section of Blakey Rigg. Sadly it was misty and the views along the valley were quite poor. We returned to the banks of the River Dove for the last mile or so back to the car, so as to be able to enjoy the daffodils one last time
