Route: Diavolezza to Pontresina
Area: Eastern Swiss Alps
Date of walk: 28th June 2014
Walkers: Andrew and Gilly
Distance: 7.2 miles
Weather: cloudy with sunny intervals
After finishing our morning walk (click here) we caught the train from Alp Grüm back in the direction of Pontresina, but decided to disembark at Bernina-Diavolezza and take the cable car up to the peak of Diavolezza (nearly 10,000 feet). The views were impressive as the car whisked us to the top. Once there, we decided to come straight back down as the cloud was down and it was extremely cold. It was worth the trip though, just to get a taste of some serious high mountain scenery
Once back down at the bottom, we walked along the valley to Morteratsch stopping there for refreshments, and then back to our hotel in Pontresina. This was easy going as it was downhill all the way and we made quick progress
We’d managed two great walks in one day. This is an amazing area for walkers. The only problem we’re having is making our minds up about which route to choose from a seemingly infinite number of possibilities
