Buttermere

Buttermere

Western Lake District

Route: Buttermere

Area: Western Lake District

Date of walk: 16th December 2013

Walkers: Andrew

Distance: 5.4 miles

Ascent: 400 feet

This is a walk we’ve done many times, always in an anti-clockwise direction for some reason. The surroundings are beautiful throughout and this means that there can be too many people around at peak holiday times. On a cold Monday in December there was no chance of that

I parked in the National Trust car park just outside Buttermere village and followed the path round the lake. It would be impossible to get lost

The recent downpours meant that there were many streams cascading dramatically down the fellside into the lake

The weather was gloomy and overcast but the scenery is so stunning that it didn’t matter, and I thoroughly enjoyed the walk
