Bishop Wilton

Bishop Wilton

East Yorkshire

Route: Bishop Wilton Circular

Area: East Yorkshire

Date of walk: 23rd March 2014

Walkers: Andrew

Distance: 7.9 miles

Ascent: 1,300 feet

Weather: sunny spells, cloudier later on and some hail showers

I parked in the attactive and unspoilt village of Bishop Wilton and joined the Minster Way. A stiff climb took me to the top of the Bishop Wilton Wold, from where there were stunning views back across the Vale of York

After walking along the brow of the wold for a while I descended into the idyllic valley of Givendale – an enchanting place. Another climb took me back up onto the Wolds where I joined the road for a while. A hailstorm – which I’d seen coming towards me from miles away – finally made its threatened appearance and signalled the end of the fine weather

There were more wonderful views across the Vale of York on the return leg, capping off what had been a great walk
